Defend the Freedom of Women in the South Bronx and Everywhere

The following is a call for action and statement by New York Coalition for Abortion Clinic Defense. We in Socialist Core endorse it.

Twice yearly, the anti-choice forces hold a “40 Days for Life” event, which is an international campaign that increases the harassment and numbers of anti-choice demonstrators outside of clinics.

This year, Dr. Emily’s Women’s Health Clinic is one of their main targets, and the “40 Days” is from September 22nd until October 31st.

What you can do:

-       We will need people there this Saturday especially, but if you can’t make it please consider coming another Saturday before Oct. 31^st.

-       Bring your own sign supporting the right of women to have safe and legal abortions

-       Wear red if you want to help escort women to and from the clinic

-       Email  Democracy Now and requesting coverage for this important issue at http://www.democracynow.org/contact?to=1  (make sure you choose “story idea”).

Dr. Emily’s Women’s Health Clinic in The Bronx is a clinic that provides medical services to women, including abortion. The anti-choice action occurring at this clinic is threatening and often unknown to the general public.

Every day, well-financed anti-choice organizations, groups and individuals target women who come to Dr. Emily’s. The doors are blocked, people are given misinformation, and clients and staff are harassed and threatened.

On Saturdays, NYCACD escorts women in and out of the clinic.

On September 25th, NYCACD and others will stand in support of Dr. Emily’s Women’s Health Clinic, its staff, and, most importantly, the women that have appointments at the clinic.

It’s time for New York to stand up and say, in the words of the murdered abortion provider Dr. Tiller, that we “Trust Women.”
